Review: SMPL Hard Seltzer

SMPL Hard Seltzer was released in a three flavor 15 can variety pack March 2020 by the Flying Fish Brewing Company.  The three flavors include Pomegranate & Lime, Blueberry & Peach, and Mango & Kiwi.  Each weighs in with 5% alcohol, 100 calories, and 1 carb.  The Flying Fish Brewing Company previously sold a 4% SMPL Hard Seltzer on tap at their brewery.  Gene Muller founded Flying Fish in 1995 in Cherry Hill New Jersey.  In 2012 they moved to a much larger brewery in Somerdale New Jersey that features 462 solar panels on the roof to provide much of the electricity needed.  Flying Fish opened their brewery with XPA Citra Pale Ale, and have since added several year round and seasonal varieties including Jersey Juice, Hazy Bones, Day Light Savings, Hopfish IPA and Salt & Sea.  Flying Fish is the largest brewery in New Jersey and their beer and hard seltzer are currently available in NJ, PA, MD, and DE.  SMPL Hard Seltzer is made with filtered water, alcohol from fermented sugar, and natural flavors.

SMPL Pomegranate & Lime Hard Seltzer

The aroma leads with fresh limeade.  Additional time in the glass brings out cherry, pomegranate, and a malty beer backing.  The floral pomegranate and lime entry is joined by cherry building to a bright pomegranate lime peak.  It fades with sour cherry and finishes dry with bittersweet pomegranate, lime peel, and carbon seltzer.

SMPL Mango & Kiwi Hard Seltzer

The aroma is a nice blend of fresh sliced mango, strawberry ice cream, and kiwi.  The fresh mango entry is joined by strawberry building to a tart strawberry and kiwi peak.  It fades with ripe mango and strawberry, finishing dry with subtle carbon seltzer taste.

Grade: A- 

SMPL Blueberry & Peach Hard Seltzer 

The aroma leads with blueberry.  Ripe peach follows.  The fresh blueberry entry is joined by juicy peach building to a blueberry peach pie peak.  It fades with tart blueberry and sour peach and finishes with grapefruit peel and carbon seltzer taste.
