Review: Truly Margarita Style Hard Seltzer

Truly Margarita Style Hard Seltzer was just released.  It is available in a 4 flavor 12 can variety pack.  Truly is not the first to include agave nectar in their hard seltzer but depending on the success of Truly Margarita Style they may start a new wave of me too products.  Each of their four flavor varieties share similar DNA including lime juice concentrate, cane sugar, stevia sweetener, sea salt, natural flavors, and agave nectar.  Pear Juice is added for color.  Each weighs in with 5.3% alcohol, 110 calories, and 2% real juice.  Flavor specific ingredients will be listed in the review.

Truly Margarita Style Classic Lime:  Made with the base ingredients listed above.  The aroma leads with lime juice and agave.  The sugary sweet lime entry is joined by agave building to a lime juice and agave peak.  It fades with vanilla and stevia leaving tart lime juice, Mountain Dew, a sprinkle of sea salt and agave taste.  While a little sweet I do get a margarita vibe here.

Truly Margarita Style Watermelon Cucumber:  Made with watermelon juice concentrate and cucumber juice concentrate.  The aroma leads with Jolly Rancher Watermelon, agave, and sliced cucumber.  Additional time brings out Juicy Fruit gum and vanilla.  The sweet watermelon candy entry is joined by lime juice and cucumber.  Tropical fruit and agave arrive at the midpoint.  It fades with watermelon cucumber, pineapple, and stevia leaving watermelon syrup, lime juice, coconut, and agave taste.

Truly Margarita Style Strawberry Hibiscus:  Made with strawberry juice concentrate, and hibiscus powder.  The aroma leads with strawberry jam.  Additional time brings out lime agave and floral notes.  The sweet strawberry licorice entry is joined by lime building to a strawberry gummy and agave peak.  It fades with vanilla and agave leaving strawberry stevia and cranberry taste.

Truly Margarita Style Mango Chili:  Made with mango juice concentrate, and chili powder.  The aroma leads with fresh mango and chili powder.  Additional time brings out stevia and lime soda.  The sweet mango juice entry is joined by lime juice and chili powder.  It fades with lime, stevia and ripe mango and finishes with spicy chili powder, pineapple, and lime juice.

The Bottom Line:  Truly Margarita Style Hard Seltzers do not have as much agave flavor as some of the other agave nectar hard seltzers on the market today.  While the stevia sweetener does not overwhelm like Truly Lemonade Seltzer or Truly Punch Seltzer it is present and each flavor is on the sweet side.  There is natural fruit juice taste in each flavor, and a real chili powder presence in Truly Mango Chile.
