Review: UV Salty Caramel Apple Vodka

by Jeff Ellingson

UV salty caramel apple - CopyUV Salty Caramel Apple vodka was just released in limited quantities.  It is one of the seasonal flavors they offer in addition to their 21 year round vodka’s.  They create their vodka with Midwest grown yellow corn and purified water from deep aquifers in Princeton Minnesota.  It is distilled four times, then filtered with activated carbon before natural flavors are added. It pours to a caramel color.  The aroma is fresh sliced apple with a hint of caramel and butterscotch.  The entry is very salty.  It feels is if someone has emptied the salt shaker on my tongue.  As the salt moderates I pick up both natural caramel and apple flavor with a hint of nuts.  There is only a mild mouth warming, but there is a slight burn as I swallow, before a caramel flavored finish.  Without the added salt this would have a very tasty Taffy Apple rolled in peanuts taste, but since I can’t eliminate it, I would recommend UV Salty Caramel vodka only in a cocktail.
