Review: Van Gogh Oranje Vodka
Van Gogh Oranje vodka was introduced in 2000. It is one of 22 flavored vodka’s crafted by Master Distiller Tim Vos in Holland. Van Gogh starts with a blend of wheat, corn, and barley that is double distilled in small batches in a column still and then distilled again in a pot still. Purified water is blended to reduce to a proper level. Sweet Florida orange pulp and skin are then double infused for six weeks before bottling at 70 proof. Originally Van Gogh Oranje was made with Spanish Oranges but they made the switch a couple of years ago. I believe the bottle I am reviewing is made with the original Spanish oranges. The aroma is fresh peeled whole orange. The sweet orange entry builds to a sweet juicy orange juice peak. There is a creaminess to this vodka with chocolate flavor arriving at the midpoint followed by a peppery sting. It finishes with a long warm spicy whole orange taste, softened by a touch of honey. Van Gogh’s six week double flavor infusion process always creates a very flavorful taste, and long finish. Van Gogh Oranje is no exception.
