Review: White Claw Hard Seltzer Surf Variety Pack

by Jeff Ellingson

Mark Anthony Brands has just released another hard seltzer variety pack.  While my first thought is this must be White Claw’s fourth standard hard seltzer variety pack.  I feel there must be a reason this is not named White Claw Variety Pack 4.  White Claw has not yet had a press release so I’m a little curious what awaits me with White Claw Surf.  White Claw also produces the higher octane White Claw Hard Seltzer Surge, and White Claw Hard Seltzer Iced Tea variety packs.  If you are wondering why they haven’t released a hard seltzer lemonade, they have.  They just piggybacked on the worlds most famous hard lemonade product brand with their Mikes Hard Lemonade Seltzer.

White Claw Surf Tropical Pomelo Smash: Made with grapefruit juice concentrate.  The aroma leads with fresh peeled pomelo.  The sugar sprinkled grapefruit entry builds to a tart and juicy pomelo peak.  It fades with sour pomelo leaving orange peel and grapefruit taste.

Grade: B+

White Claw Surf Citrus Yuzu Smash:  Made with natural lemon juice concentrate.  The aroma leads with whole sliced lemon.  Grapefruit follows.  Additional time brings out a mint notes.  The sweetened lemon entry builds to a tart lemon and grapefruit peak.  It fades with sour lemon juice and finishes with mint, grapefruit and tangy lemon.

Grade: B

White Claw Surf Watermelon Lime Smash:  Made with natural watermelon juice concentrate.  The aroma leads with candied watermelon and lime juice.  The Watermelon Sour Patch Kid entry is joined by lime juice building to a sour watermelon and lime juice peak.  The intensity softens over time but the flavor profile remains through the finish.

Grade: B-

White Claw Surf Wildberry Acai Smash:  Made with natural blackberry juice concentrate.  The aroma leads with fresh blackberry.  Wild berry and chocolate follow.  The sweet blackberry entry builds to a sour blackberry and chocolate peak.  It fades with sour raspberry gummy flavor and finishes with tart blackberry, sour raspberry, and Tootsie Roll taste.

Grade: B+
