Review: Woodchuck Summer Hard Cider

by Jeff Ellingson

woodchuck summer - CopyWoodchuck Summer Hard cider was originally introduced in select markets in 2010.  One year later it was released Nationally April 2011.  It is one of four seasonal Limited release ciders Woodchuck creates in Vermont with locally grown apples.  Blueberry juice is infused before bottling or canning at 5% alcohol. It pours to a ginger ale color with medium carbonation.  The aroma is blueberry and bittersweet apple.  The crisp apple entry lasts a brief moment before blueberry first joins then dominates the flavor before fading with a bittersweet blueberry apple finish.  While the blueberry flavor is natural tasting, once the bittersweet apple flavor joins in the result is somewhat sour.  Additional sips bring out a hint of mint.
