Review: ZMIX Instant Cocktail Mix

ZMIX Instant Cocktail Mix was recently named the 2014 Best New Product of the Year by Beverage Industry Magazine.  They currently offer three flavors including Lemon Drop, Cosmo, and Purple Hooter.  Each 1.6 Oz. squeezable bottle contains enough liquid for 24 drinks and retails for $4.99 a bottle.  More flavors are planned.  Four friends who attended Knoxville Catholic High School founded the company, and while Mio Liquid Water Enhancer has been available for years, ZMIX is the first product designed specifically and proportionally to be mixed with alcohol.  So how does it taste?  Initially I tried tasting each flavor by it’s self on a spoon.  The first thing I noticed was the bright yellow, red and purple colors that came squirting out.  It’s really hard to get just one drop.  While I expected an over sweet flavor blast, the flavor was actually pretty good.  The Lemon Drop tasted like lemon, the Cosmo had cherry and cranberry flavor, and the Purple Hooter had grape and berry taste.  I also tried a couple of their recommended cocktails and I found the flavors came through just fine.  While ZMIX will not replace fresh fruit juice in creating craft cocktails, the flavor and convenience of this product will make for some enjoyable evenings for their under 30 target market.
