Jack Daniels Tennessee Apple was just released. Flavored whiskey sales growth has slowed since the explosive growth experienced a few years ago, but the market is still growing. Two of the top seven flavored whiskeys are apple flavored. This is not Jack Daniels first apple flavored spirit, shortly after prohibition they released an apple flavored brandy. JD Tennessee Apple should also not be confused with the previously released seasonal Jack Daniels Winter Jack. Winter Jack was made with Jack Daniels Old No. 7 Tennessee Whiskey, apple cider liqueur and holiday spices. It was bottled at 30 Proof. JD Tennessee Apple is made from their Tennessee whiskey base made from 80% corn, 12% barley, 8% rye, and limestone spring water sourced from a two mile deep cave. After fermenting with starter yeast from a previous batch for 6 days, the mash is distilled once in a large column still. Once distilled to 140 proof the unaged whiskey is mellowed through ten feet of handcrafted charcoal for 3-5 days, then aged in new white oak barrels hand built by Jack Daniels. The 33 separate wood staves are held together by the sheer pressure of the woods precise arrangement. Once assembled the barrels interior is toasted. Stillhouse Apple Crisp Whiskey is made from a 100% clear corn whiskey base. The corn is estate grown in Culpepper Virginia, distilled four times in traditional copper whiskey stills and charcoal filtered. Natural apple crisp liqueur is infused before packaging in a 100% stainless steel can that bares a strong resemblance to a can of lighter fluid. The Stillhouse brand was first launched in 2010 and was initially sold as a moonshine. While the recipe has not changed, the packaging, name, and marketing has. J Seeds Apple Cider Whiskey as the name would imply is an apple cider flavored whiskey. This whiskey is produced at the Frank-Lin Distillers Products in Fairfield California. Frank-Lin has been in continuous operation since the repeal of prohibition. They offer custom bottling, importing exporting and wholesaling. Beyond Vodka, 8 Seconds Canadian Whisky, and Bellringer Gin are three of the nearly 70 spirits they currently produce. I have found no product details on the J Seeds Apple Cider Whiskey website, their Facebook page, and I have not seen any product review. Read more
