Review: Bacardi O Rum
Bacardi O rum was introduced in 2002. It is one of 15 flavored rums they create in Puerto Rico. It is made with molasses and a single strain of yeast, Le Levadura Bacardi that are fermented for 30 hours in closed fermentation tanks. The fermented molasses is divided with some column still and some beer still distilled. Each is aged separately in lightly charred American white oak barrels. Once mature the rums are blended and filtered through a mix of charcoal made from tropical woods and coconut shells. It is infused with the essence of Mandarin oranges from Sicily, Valencia oranges from Florida, and Dancy tangerines from Brazil, Israel, and Florida. Read more

Calico Jack Pineapple Coconut rum is one of nine rum flavors Beam Suntory creates under the Calico Jack label. White Rock Distillery launched this rum line in 1993 and sold it along with their Pinnacle brand of vodka to Jim Beam in 2012. It is made with rum distilled in St. Croix at the same distillery where Cruzan rum is crafted. Natural pineapple and coconut flavor is added in Frankfort Kentucky where it is bottled at 42 proof. Cruzan Vanilla rum is one of 15 rum flavors they create with rum distilled in St. Croix with tropical rain water and high quality molasses. They use a five column distillation process and they remove the heads and fusel oils from each batch before aging in oak barrels. Brinley Gold Shipwreck Mango rum is one of five rums made in St. Kitts. At 69 square miles St. Kitts is the smallest Country in the Western Hemisphere. Brinley rum was created when after 20 years Bob Brinley closed his medical supply business and the Brinley’s were looking for a way to stay on the island of St. Kitts. They set a mission of creating the smoothest natural flavored rums. They began selling their molasses based column distilled rum in 2002. In 2012 they rebranded the line to include the Shipwreck name to honor the recent discovery of a British ship sunk off the coast of St. Kitts, by the French during the battle of Frigate Bay in 1787. Calico Jack Mango rum is one of nine rum flavors Beam Suntory creates under the Calico Jack label. Beam Suntory purchased the Calico Jack line of rum in 2012 from White Rock Distilleries in 2012 along with their Pinnacle brand of vodka. White Rock originally launched their rum line in 1993 and their mango flavor was first named Mango Jack before rebranding to Calico Jack. It is one of four rum varieties created by country music star Kenny Chesney and Mike Booth, the Master Blender at the West Indies Rum Distillery in Barbados. Brinley Gold Shipwreck Coffee rum is one of five rums made in St. Kitts, the smallest country in the Western Hemisphere, by the Brinley family. It was rebranded in 2012 to include the Shipwreck name, and repackaged to match their Spice rum bottle. The Shipwreck name honors the recent discovery of the Brimstone Hill off the coast of St. Kitts. It was a British ship sunk by the French during the battle of Frigate Bay in 1782. Brinley has been selling their column distilled rum since 2002 and they age their rum in oak bourbon barrels for four years.
