Review: Fris Orange Freeze Vodka
Fris Orange Freeze vodka was introduced July 2012 as Pernod Richard re-launched the Fris vodka line. It is one of 4 vodka flavors they distill in Canada with whole grain wheat and pure spring water. The other flavors are Citrus, Whipped, and their unflavored original. Fris was originally created in Denmark in 1989 at the Aalborg Distillery. It was sold in 1999 to V&S and again in 2008 to Pernod Richard, the parent company of Absolut Vodka. They use a six column distillation process that continuously freeze distills the vodka at 14 degrees. The fusel oils, a by-product of the fermentation process freeze into a solid mass and are removed leaving a clean pure vodka. All natural flavors are added before bottling at 70 proof. Read more
Review: Moon Mountain Wild Raspberry Vodka
Moon Mountain Wild Raspberry vodka was introduced by Diageo with their Coastal Citrus, and Artisanal unflavored vodka November 2010. While I still find this vodka on the shelves of liquor stores, their website now directs me to bar.com. The Moon Mountain name was inspired by the Sonoma California vineyard where master distiller Gerry Webb took his inspiration to craft a vodka with the same love and detail as a fine wine. Ironically this vineyard is now closed. Moon Mountain uses the finest corn grown in Minnesota and Indiana and distill the vodka twice in Plainfield Illinois. A third distillation in a copper pot still originally made in Scotland in 1934 and used to create gin follows. Purified water and a state of the art filtration follows, before natural organic flavors including wild raspberry and elderberry extract are added in Lawrenceburg Indiana where it is bottled at 70 proof. Review: Smirnoff Sours Fruit Punch Vodka
Smirnoff Sours Fruit Punch vodka was just introduced with Green Apple, and Watermelon as part of their just launched Sours line of vodka. With the only recipe listed for all three flavors a shot glass of chilled Sours vodka, it is obvious that this is not a vodka designed to be sipped and savored. Smirnoff is not the first sour flavored brand of vodkas, as Beam Suntory launched their Pucker line of vodkas in 2011. That line now includes 7 flavors, but none of them are fruit punch flavored.
