Review: Jim Beam Apple
Jim Beam Apple was just released in the US, after it was successfully launched in Europe a couple of months ago. It is made with corn, rye, barley malt, and limestone filtered water, that feeds into a 10,000 gallon cooker. Once cooked the mash heads to the fermenter tank where a 75 year old yeast strain is added. It is then distilled twice in a 35 foot tall column still and then aged for at least four years in brand new charred American oak barrels. Apple liqueur is then infused before bottling at 70 proof. Bonnie Rose Orange Peel Tennessee White Whiskey was introduced along with a Spiced Apple flavor April 2015. It is made from orange peel both cold pressed and distilled. Jeremiah Weed Spiced Whiskey was introduced November 2014 along with a Cinnamon, and Sarsaparilla Whiskey flavor. It is made with American blended whiskey with spices and other natural flavors. When I hear spiced whiskey I immediately think of spice rum and if anyone should know how to craft a spiced whiskey it should be Diageo. Jeremiah Weed Cinnamon Whiskey was introduced November 2014 along with a Sarsaparilla, and Spiced Whiskey flavor. This product line was launched by Diageo, the company behind some of the biggest names in liquor including, Smirnoff, Ciroc, Ketel One, Captain Morgan, Crown Royal, and Baileys. They also have a history of creating several smaller brands like Piehole, Orphan Barrel, Moon Mountain and Rokk Vodka. Jeremiah Weed Cinnamon is made with American blended whiskey with spices and other natural flavors. While there are several Cinnamon flavored whiskeys already on the market today, there are still more cucumber flavored vodka’s, and the flavored whiskey market is growing much faster than flavored vodka. Jeremiah Weed Sarsaparilla Whiskey was introduced November 2014 along with a Cinnamon, and a Spiced Whiskey flavor. The Jeremiah Weed Brand is probably best known for it’s line of sweet tea flavored vodka’s. It is made with American blended whiskey, with spices, and other natural flavors and it is bottled at a mysterious 70.4 proof. Sarsaparilla was once popular as a medicinal tonic. My guess is the bottle and labeling were very similar to what Jeremiah Weed looks like today. Sarsaparilla root is one of the main flavor ingredients in root beer. Read more

Jim Beam Honey was introduced in 2012. It is made with corn, rye, barley malt, and water, and aged for four years in oak barrels and infused with golden honey and liqueur before it is bottled at 70 proof. Jim Beam currently makes six flavored bourbons, although by law they can not be sold as bourbon because they don’t meet the minimum 80 proof requirement. Their Black Cherry, Spiced, and Hardcore Cider are crafted to appeal to new bourbon drinkers and are sold under their Red Stag label. Cinnamon Mist Canadian Whisky is one of four flavors they introduced in limited markets the summer of 2013. All start with Canadian Mist whisky as the base. Canadian Mist is crafted with a blend of grain and rye whiskey with a touch of sherry and pure water from the Georgian Bay. It is triple distilled in six column copper stills and aged in used white oak barrels. Proprietary cinnamon liqueur is then blended in before bottling at 70 proof in Collinwood Ontario. Read more
