Original Sin Cherry Tree cider was introduced in 2011. It is one of five Original Sin ciders made at the Florida Beer Company in Melbourne Florida. Original Sin was first created in Upstate New York in 1997. Their Cherry Tree cider is one of their two Heirloom ciders. It is made with Golden and Russet Heirllom apples and blended with the juice of tart cherries and Champaign yeast in small batches with no artificial flavor, sugar, or color added. Read more

Ace Hard Berry Cider is one of seven ciders made in Sebastopol California by The California Cider Company. They create their Berry cider with a blend of apple juice and champaign yeast that is fermented for 14 days. It is then cold filtered four times before blackberry, strawberry, and raspberry juice is added along with carbonated water. Read more
Review: Woodchuck 802 Hard Cider
Woodchuck 802 Hard cider was introduced in 1993. It was the second of what now number six core cider flavors made in Middlebury Vermont by the Vermont Hard Cider Company. It was originally called Dark and Dry but later changed the name to 802, the area code of Vermont. It is made with locally grown apples that are fresh pressed. The juice is transferred into a fermentation tank with Champaign yeast and caramelized sugar. The caramelized sugar creates the ciders color and replaces the white sugar used in their other ciders. This process takes several weeks. The cider is then sent through a crossflow filter where it is cold filtered. After cold filtering the hard cider is put into a blending tank where natural flavors are added before bottling. Read more
Review: Angry Orchard Crisp Apple Cider
Angry Orchard Crisp Apple cider is one of three ciders the Boston Beer Company, the makers of Sam Adams beer launched the company with in 2011. They have added a forth flavor, Green Apple, to complete their Core line of year round ciders. They also offer two seasonal ciders. After only a couple years on the market Angry Orchard is the best selling cider in the US. AO Crisp is made with hand selected bittersweet apples from France and culinary apples from Italy. These apples are pressed and mashed before white wine yeast is added and a lengthy fermentation begins. Read more

McKenzies Green Apple Hard cider is one of five hard cider flavors made with cider sourced from and bottled by Mayer Brothers in West Seneca New York. The McKenzie’s name is a tribute to his brother in law who died at 43 from brain cancer. Read more
Review: Angry Orchard Elderflower Cider
Angry Orchard Elderflower cider was introduced February 2013. It is one of two seasonal ciders made in Cincinnati Ohio by Angry Orchard, a division of The Boston Beer Company, the brewers of Sam Adams beer. It is available April – August each year. Their other seasonal flavor is Cinnful Apple. While elderflower is found in several liqueurs, most notably St. Germain, this is the first cider made with elderflower. Angry Orchard Elderflower Cider is made with US grown bittersweet and culinary apples from the Pacific Northwest and the foothills of the Northeast. These apples are shredded and the pulp is pressed into juice. Wine yeast is added before a lengthy fermentation process where the cider is wood aged. Elderflower and natural flavors are added before bottling at 5% alcohol. Read more

While not a staple in most US households, products made with elderberries and elderflowers are popular in Europe where they are made into everything from syrup and marshmallows to liqueurs and soft drinks. Review: Somersby Hard Apple Cider
Somersby Hard Apple Cider was created by Carlsberg in 2008. It was introduced in the US in limited markets in 2013 and while still limited, it is expanding. It was originally created for the Danish market but they have expanded their distribution to include Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America, and it was the worlds fastest growing cider in 2012. Carlsberg creates several different flavors but the only one I’ve seen in the US is their original. Read more

Review: Wyders Dry Apple Cider
Wyders Dry Apple cider was created in Vancouver Canada by Ian Wyder in 1987. It is one of four ciders now produced under the Wyders label in Middlebury Vermont by the Vermont Hard Cider Company, the creators of Woodchuck Hard Cider. The other flavors include a Dry Raspberry, Dry Pear, and a Reposado Pear which is only available on draft. The days of Dry Apple may be numbered as it is no longer featured on the Wyders web page.
