Review: Deep Eddy Lime Vodka
Deep Eddy Lime Vodka is the newest of seven flavor varieties crafted by Deep Eddy from a vodka base made from the highest quality corn and spring water from deep aquifers in Texas Hill Country. Deep Eddy is named for the oldest spring fed swimming pool in Austin Texas. The vodka is small batch distilled 10 times on a state of the art column still, and gently filtered over charcoal 4 times. Real lime juice is blended and the vodka is lightly sweetened with real cane sugar before bottling at 70 proof. Deep Eddy was established in 2010 by Chad Auler founder of Savvy Vodka and Clayton Christopher founder of Sweet Leaf Tea Beverages. In 2015 they sold Deep Eddy to Heaven Hill Brand for a figure that has been estimated to be between $165-300 million. Not a bad 5 year return on their investment. Read more
Review: Stoli Lime Vodka
Stoli Lime Vodka was just released. After shortening their flavored vodka lineup, Stoli is now rebuilding. They recently added Stoli Crushed Strawberry, the fourth member of their Crushed, real fruit juice infused vodka brand they launched in 2016. Stoli Lime joins a lineup that includes Stoli Cucumber, introduced last year. Stoli Lime starts with a vodka base made from estate grown winter wheat from fields in the Tambov region surrounding their distillery. The spirit is triple distilled. The spirit travels to the historic Latvijas Balzarns in Riga Latvia, where pure artesian well water is blended to reduce to proof. The vodka is quadruple filtered through a series that includes quartz, Siberian birch, and tightly woven cloth. Natural lime flavor is infused before bottling at 75 proof. Read more
Review: Absolut Lime Vodka
Absolut Lime Vodka was just released. If you don’t count their limited edition Chicago Vodka made with Olive and Rosemary flavor, or Absolut Texas made with cucumber and Serrano chili flavor, this is their first new vodka flavor since they launched Absolut Cilantro in 2013. Lime is one of 18 flavored vodka’s currently featured on the Absolut Vodka website. Later this year that number will shrink to 10, as Absolut plans to focus on its core flavors. Absolut Citron and Absolut Mandrin are the industries number one selling citrus and orange flavored vodkas, so it makes sense to add a flavor that plays to their strength. A Vodka tonic with a squeeze of lime is said to be the worlds second most popular cocktail, so look for Absolut Lime to be an instant hit. Absolut Lime starts with a vodka base made from Swedish winter wheat sourced from 450 local farms, with one kilo of wheat needed to create one liter of vodka. The wheat is milled on site and blended with water and a proprietary yeast and fermented for 2 days. A continuous distillation process is used with steel column stills and copper plates. The vodka is filtered once through a mesh filter. Pure deep well water that comes from naturally filtered aquifers is softened through reverse osmosis and then blended with the vodka to reduce to proof. All natural flavors are then infused with no sugar added before bottling at 80 proof. Read more
