Review: Firefly Cherry Moonshine

firefly cherry - CopyFirefly Cherry Moonshine is one of six flavors they launched their line of moonshines with in March 2013.  They have since added a seventh flavor.  It is made at the Firefly distillery on Wadmalaw Island, 30 miles south of Charleston South Carolina.  The Firefly Distillery opened in 2006, and while their first product was a vodka made with Muscadine grapes, their next product a Sweet Tea flavored vodka that was the world’s first hand crafted sweet tea flavored vodka was what put them on the map.  Since then they have also crafted a lemonade flavored vodka, additional tea flavored vodkas, a line of liqueurs, a rum, and a bourbon.  Their Cherry Moonshine is made in two 300 gallon homemade pot stills with corn, barley, wheat, sugar, and natural flavors.  Certified color is then added.  To handle demand outside of South Carolina, Sazerac produces and bottles Firefly moonshine in Frankfort Kentucky.
