Review: Kristone Vodka

Kristone Vodka is crafted at Crystal Rain Distillery by Kristian Hristov.  The Crystal Rain Distillery opened in Lake Forest Illinois in 2019 but they recently opened their new distillery in Wheeling Illinois.  While they currently just produce vodka, their Facebook page shows images of oak barrels, hinting more is on the horizon.  Kristone is made from Organic Winter Wheat and water purified by both carbon and reverse osmosis.  It is slow distilled 6 times through a copper pot still with 24 plates and is filtered through silver and platinum. Review: Frankly Organic Grapefruit Vodka

Frankly Organic Grapefruit Vodka was launched June 2018 by Be in Good Spirits Co-Founders Philip Rock and Kent Croutcher.  It is one of five organically produced vodkas they craft in Texas.  The vodka base is made from organic corn sourced from family farms and is distilled five times and filtered twice.  Frankly Organic Grapefruit Vodka appears to hit all of the latest vodka trends.  No refined sugars, no gluten, no GMO’s, and no artificial colors, are added.  It’s certified organic by Oregon Tilth, its made with real fruit juice, and organic fruit and vegetable juice is added for color.  Frankly Organic Grapefruit Vodka even prints their entire ingredient list on the bottle.  That list reads organic corn vodka, organic ruby red grapefruit, organic apple, organic lemon juice, organic Ceylon cinnamon, organic maca root, organic grade A maple syrup, and natural flavors. Review: Frankly Organic Strawberry Vodka

Frankly Organic Strawberry Vodka was introduced June 2018 along with Frankly Organic Grapefruit, Pomegranate, Apple, and their unflavored original Frankly Organic Vodka.  Each flavor starts with a vodka base made from 100% family farmed organic corn.  The vodka is distilled in small batches in Austin Texas and each variety is certified organic by Oregon Tilth.  Frankly Organic Strawberry is infused with organic strawberries harvested in California, organic apples, organic turmeric, organic ginger root, organic coconut water, organic lemon juice from Spain, Vermont Grade A maple syrup and natural flavors.  Organic fruit and vegetable juice is added for color.  1% of revenue supports animal welfare causes. Review: Square One Bergamot Vodka

Square One Bergamot Vodka was launched in 2009.  It is one of five Square One Vodka varieties produced at Distilled Resources in Rigby Idaho.  The others include Basil, Botanical, Cucumber, and their Original Organic.  Square One is a female owned and operated company headed by company CEO and Founder Allison Evanow.  A Bergamot is a citrus fruit that looks like a lime, and is believed to be a genetic hybrid of a lemon and Seville orange.  They are grown primarily in Southern Italy and the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.  Square One Bergamot is made from a vodka base of organic rye grown in North Dakota, and pristine water originating in the Teton Mountains of Wyoming.  After a unique organic fermentation, the spirit is small batch four column continuous distilled and filtered once through a simple micro paper filter.  The vodka base is layered with the citrus oils of pressed Mandarin, Navel, and Tangerine oranges and finished with the botanical essences of ginger, coriander, and juniper.  The vodka is bottled at 80 proof unfiltered after the flavor infusion to . Review: Greenbar Tru Lemon Vodka

Greenbar Tru Lemon Vodka is crafted from a vodka base made from organic wheat and distilled in a continuous column still at the Greenbar Distillery in Los Angeles California.  After a gentle charcoal filtration, 2000 hand-zested Eureka Lemons are infused in every small batch.  That’s right only three ingredients are used, organic wheat, organic Eureka Lemons, and pure water filtered through reverse osmosis.  Eureka lemons are a variety of Citrus Limon that was developed in California in 1958. Review: Greenbar Tru Vodka

Greenbar Tru Vodka was recently released, replacing Tru Organic Vodka, in The Greenbar Distillery stable of organic spirits.  You may have noticed the new package design of their entire product line including Crusoe Rum, IXA Tequila, and Slow Hand Six Woods Whiskey.  With Greenbar Tru Vodka the change was more than just cosmetic, they changed the recipe.  The husband and wife team of Melkon Khosrovian and Litty Matthew have never been about playing it safe.  Since launching Modern Spirits in Monrovia California in 2004 the two have crafted dozen of spirits including rum, vodka, gin, whiskey, and liqueurs.  They even killed their first brand Modern Spirits to get out of a horrible distribution contract.  Anyone remember Modern Chocolate-Orange or Grapefruit Honey Vodka?  Greenbar Tru Vodka is made from three ingredients American organic wheat, California grown organic pomegranate and pure water.  The organic wheat and pomegranate are distilled separately in a continuous distillation column still and gently charcoal filtered.  They are then blended together.  Pure water filtered through reverse osmosis is added to reduce to 80 proof.    Read more »

Review: Tru Organic Vodka

Tru Organic Vodka is crafted from organic wheat, distilled with a state of the art column still, and gently charcoal filtered.  Pure water filtered through reverse osmosis is blended to reduce to proof.  The Greenbar Distillery was one of the countries first legal distilleries since the repeal of Prohibition when they opened in Monrovia California in 2004.  The distillery relocated to the LA Art District in 2012, and was the first legal distillery to open in Los Angeles.  This version of Tru Vodka is no longer produced, but you may still find a bottle at your local liquor stores.  The husband and wife team of Melkon Khosrovian and Litty Matthew recently changed the formula and the packaging of this vodka.  I will be posting my review of their new Greenbar Tru Vodka tomorrow. Review: Bainbridge Legacy Organic Vodka

Bainbridge Legacy Organic Vodka is named for the Washington State Island the vodka is crafted on.  Bainbridge Organic Distillers was Washington States first distillery producing USDA certified organic spirits when it was founded as a family business by Keith Barnes and his son Patrick in 2009.  Since the beginning, every task in the making of distilled spirits has been done onsite with their own hands.  From the selection of grain varieties and lots, to grinding, mashing, fermenting, and distilling.  They also produce 2 gins, 2 whiskeys and an Organic Vanilla Vodka.  Bainbridge Legacy Organic Vodka is made from soft organic white wheat grown on family farms, and pristine water from the islands deep aquifers.  It is small batch distilled four times in a 300 gallon Vendome copper pot still. Review: Kanon Organic Vodka

Kanon Organic Vodka is distilled once from locally grown organic wheat.  Each batch is divided into three parts, the head, the heart, and the tail.  Only the heart which is pure ethanol is kept.  The heads and tails are recycled into biogas for local buses.  Pristine spring water is blended before bottling at the Gripsholm Distillery in Akers Styckebruk Sweden.  In 1580 King Karl IV of Sweden built the Akers Styckbruk Foundary to produce cannons for the Swedish Army and the distillery to make vodka for its workers.  By 1775 King Gustaf III had monopolized alcohol production to fund his many wars.  Unable to pay his debt, he made Gripsholm a Royal Distillery.  It soon became the largest distillery in Sweden producing over 1 million liters of vodka a year.  King Gustaf was shot and his successor outlawed the private production of spirits.  The distillery remained closed for over 200 years.  Kanon owner Peter Hjelm began construction of the new distillery in 2008 and shipped his first case of Kanon Organic Vodka to New York in 2010. Review: Crop Organic Cucumber Vodka

Crop Organic Cucumber Vodka was introduced in 2008.  It is made from American grown organic corn harvested from fertile soil, free of artificial fertilizers, pesticides, and chemicals.  The Crop Vodka base is distilled in column stills so efficiently that no carbon treatment or charcoal filtering is required.  Organic cucumbers grown in the Midwest are infused with the vodka, before bottling at 70 proof.  Crop also makes an unflavored Artisanal Vodka, an organic Tomato, and Meyer Lemon flavored vodka.  At one time they also made a Spiced Pumpkin flavor.
