Review: Black Dot Vodka
Black Dot Vodka is crafted at the Yahara Bay Distillery in Madison Wisconsin. They also make Black Dot Gin, Whiskey, and Rum. Their vodka is now made with just three ingredients Corn, yeast, and water. It was previously distilled with a blend of 90% corn and 10% Montmorenci Cherries. Black Dot is distilled in a 90 gallon copper pot still and then chill filtered. Read more
Review: Elk Rider Vodka
Elk Rider Vodka is one of five unflavored vodka’s crafted at the Heritage Distillery in Gig Harbor Washington. The other unflavored vodka’s include Elk Rider Wheat Vodka, Triple Distilled, Batch 12, and Char Barrel Finished Vodka. They also produce 23 flavored vodka’s. Elk Rider is named for their early family members who broke wild elk, and actually rode them. Elk Rider Vodka is made with corn grown in Eastern Washington and distilled in their 2000 liter Italian made still. The Heritage Distillery has a field to flask approach. Their dozens of spirits are crafted with grains or grapes, product specific, locally sourced, and bottled at the distillery. Read more
Review: IngeniOz Vodka
IngeniOz Vodka was launched August 2014. It is distilled and bottled at the Dehner Distillery in Clive Iowa. Johannes Van Leeuwen developed a process at Iowa State University for creating a vodka with 0 impurities. The process uses ozone to oxidize unwanted substances in the vodka that are then removed with activated carbon and nano noble metal filtration. As a comparison Smirnoff was measured to have 8 impurities, Absolut 16, and Grey Goose 14. IngeniOz vodka is made with Iowa grown corn and it is small batch distilled. Read more
Review: Valentine Vodka
Valentine Vodka was launched March 2009. It is crafted by founder and distiller Rifino Valentine who after graduating from Cornell, spent 11 years on Wall Street as an independent trader. He than returned home to Michigan to open the first micro distillery in Detroit since prohibition. Valentine Vodka is crafted with a blend of 50% corn, 25% Red Michigan wheat, and 25% barley, all locally sourced. This is the same 3 grain mix Van Gogh selected to craft their original unflavored vodka, and continues to use as a base for their flavored vodka. Dragon Bleu Vodka is made with barley, wheat, and rye. Ultimat Vodka is made with potato, wheat, and rye. Valentine Vodka is small batch distilled in a 225 gallon Christian Carl still with two 35 foot columns, housing 42 trays. It is then slow filtered for 24 hours in a double false bottom 50 gallon drum through a proprietary activated carbon system made from coconut shells. A one week aeration to oxidate, esterficate and create long-chain-molecule flavor compounds follows. Water filtered through reverse osmosis is blended to reduce to proof before the vodka is hand bottled. Read more
Review: Crater Lake Vodka
Crater Lake Vodka was released in 1996. It is crafted at the Bendistillery in Tumalo Oregon. They also produce gin, several flavored vodka’s, and whiskey and the Bendistillery is a strong Private Label producer of spirits with over 40 brands created there. Crater Lake Vodka is made from corn and distilled five times and then filtered ten times through charcoal and lava rock, then briefly rested in oak. Pure Cascade Mountain water is blended to reduce to 80 proof. Founder and distiller Jim Bendis launched Crater Lake Vodka before it was cool to open a distillery, and he crafted his vodka with corn, long before Deep Eddy, and 1 year before Tito Beverage launched Tito’s Vodka. Review: CH Vodka
CH Vodka was introduced in August 2013 when Co-Founders Tremaine Atkinson and Mark Lucas opened the CH Distillery in the West Loop of Chicago Illinois. CH takes its name from the fundamental compounds in alcohol, carbon and hydrogen, while also tipping its hat to their Chicago home. Since opening, the distillery now also crafts 2 Gins, 2 Rums, several liqueurs, an aquavit, and a Peppercorn Vodka. This is the second pairing for Tremaine and Mark who also co-founded North Beach Brewing Company in San Francisco in 1989. That brewery closed one year later due to a lack of capital. After a successful second career, Tremaine became a partner at LSV Asset Management and Mark launching a courier company in Austin Texas that became the cities largest, the two decided to give it another go. This time distilling spirits instead of brewing beer. Their vodka is made from grain, winter wheat and rye, sourced from a farm 65 miles west of Chicago. The grain arrives in 2000 pound bags and so far CH has consumed over 260,000 pound crafting their vodka. Review: Precis Vodka
Precis Vodka derives it’s name from the precision distilling process which combines traditional distilling methods with modern techniques. Precis is made from 100% corn distilled once and unfiltered. Pure water from Lake Boren in Sweden is blended with the vodka to reduce to proof. The Precis bottle is hand blown and then painted from the inside. A unique pour spout and steel pop top completes the package design. Read more
Review: Jewel of Russia Classic Vodka
Jewel of Russia Classic Vodka is one of four vodka varieties in the Jewel of Russia product line. They also make the premium Jewel of Russia Ultra, and two flavored vodkas, Berry Infusion and Wild Bilberry Infusion. Jewel of Russia Classic is crafted with hard winter wheat, rye, and pure deep well artesian water. The vodka is quadruple distilled in tall column stills and slow filtered five times through paper, sand, and finally through charcoal made from the stones of peaches and apricots. Read more
Review: Sobieski Estate Single Rye Vodka
Sobieski Estate single Rye Vodka was launched October 2015 in California, and released Nationally February 2016. It is crafted in limited production at the Landcut Distillery, the oldest distilley in Poland. Sobieski Estate is made exclusively with Dankowski Rye from the fields of Galicia. The vodka is continuously rectified. Pure water from the Carpathian Fore is blended with the vodka to reduce to 80 proof. The vodka is then hand poured and hand crowned delicately with white gloves. Review: 42 Below Vodka
42 Below Vodka was launched in 1999 and later sold to Bacardi in 2008. It is one of five vodka varieties they craft in New Zealand. The other flavors include Kiwi, Passion, Honey, and Feijoa. The vodka is named for both the alcohol percent it is bottled at and the latitude in degrees below the equator it is distilled at. 42 Below is made from GM free Red Winter Wheat grown in Australia and New Zealand and pure aa spring water sourced from deep springs. The vodka is distilled three times and then washed with pure spring water to reduce the proof and remove the impurities. It is then distilled again before it is filtered through 35 different filters.
