Review: Malibu Watermelon
Malibu Watermelon was released April 2021. It is one of ten varieties of Malibu Rum. Malibu hopes to duplicate the success they enjoyed last year with the release of Malibu Strawberry Rum, and Malibu Splash. Malibu Splash is a 5% alcohol sparkling malt beverage sold in 12 ounce cans. These cans are sold in individual flavor 4 packs and 4 flavor 8 can variety packs. Malibu Watermelon starts with a rum base made in Barbados at West Indies Distillery from molasses created with Caribbean cane sugar and pure water. A proprietary yeast is used to ferment prior to distillation. The rum is shipped to Canada where it is blended with watermelon liqueur and bottled at 42 proof. Read more 
Review: Cruzan Watermelon Rum
Cruzan Watermelon Rum is a Limited Edition release that was announced in July. It has had a very limited presence as we just located a bottle last week. Cruzan currently features 15 flavored rums on their website. Watermelon is not one of them. In 1760 a sugar mill began crushing cane at the site of the Cruzan Rum Distillery on the island of St. Croix. The Nelthropp family built a distillery at the site in the early 1800’s. Today the eighth generation of the family still works at the distillery. Cruzan Watermelon is made from a rum base made from sugar cane molasses and tropical rainwater. The rum is distilled in a five column distillation process and aged in oak barrels. The rum is shipped in bulk at barrel proof to Florida where it is reduced to proof. Review: Captain Morgan Watermelon Smash
Captain Morgan Watermelon Smash was just released. This is the fourth cannon ball shaped variety of rum in the Captain Morgan stable of rum. The others include Cannon Blast, Jack-O-Blast, and Loconut. These flavors weighs in at 70, 60, and 40 proof. Captain Morgan Watermelon Smash hits the scale at 50 proof. All are designed to be enjoyed as a chilled shot or mixed in a tasty cocktail. Watermelon Smash is made with rum distilled in St Croix. Natural flavors and certified colors are blended with the rum upon its arrival in the US. How much watermelon flavor does the Captain pack into this rum? I could smell the watermelon from the shelf the bottle sat on. Maybe because the bottles label is watermelon scented, or maybe because there is just too much watermelon flavor to contain in one bottle. Read more
